Alongside the 50th anniversary bench installed at Six Ways there is now an interpretation board.  A great deal of the information displayed here was included in our 50th anniversary exhibition held last November in the New Maynard Gallery.

The concept behind the idea of the interpretation board was to inform the general public of the important part played by the local residents in saving and maintaining Sherrardspark Wood, since the creation of Welwyn Garden City. In addition the board explains the role of the wood wardens and highlights the work we do, not only to maintain the Site of Special Scientific Interest status and work within the 25 year Management Plan but also in the areas of monitoring and raising public awareness.

Four wood wardens were involved in producing the board. Stephen Brown and Dee Jackson were ably assisted by Geoff Ralph (layout) and Chris Cooke (photos). The board was put in situ by John Benson, Dave Fairhurst and Keith Lambert.

Our grateful thanks are extended to Councillors Malcolm Cowan and Richard Smith for sponsoring the board from the Hertfordshire County Council Locality Budget Scheme.
